Ryan Reynolds donates $ 4,000 to Edmonton’s Meals Financial institution
Even Vancouverites can show a little love for Edmonton.
A campaign organized with 104.9 Virgin Radio for Edmonton’s Food Bank to Collect donations during the COVID-19 pandemic received a boost after a $ 4,000 donation from Canadian celebrity Ryan Reynolds.
“I love Edmonton. This donation is a reminder of Connor McGrath, ”wrote Reynolds.
Later on Friday, local actor Nathan Fillion added a $ 5,000 donation to the panel.
“Thank you for everything you do. Stay safe,” read an attached note from Fillion.
Reynolds honored McGrath, and Edmonton boy he met via the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Reynolds had gone to town and surprised McGrath with one including screening of Deadpool, in which Reynolds starred before it hit theaters. 13-year-old McGrath died of leukemia in 2016.
In December of that year, Reynolds dedicated his Critic’s Choice Award for Entertainer of the Year to McGrath and Grace Bowen, another child he met who died after battling cancer.
Edmonton Food Bank spokeswoman Carly Kincaid Williams said in a statement that Reynolds was an “amazing” supporter of Canadian food banks and had donated in the past.
“It’s wonderful to have someone like him who is committed to our cause. Because it has such a wide reach, we hope your donation will inspire others to donate, ”said Kincaid Williams.
“We’d like to thank Ryan and everyone who donated to Edmonton’s Food Bank. Your donations will go a long way towards ensuring that everyone in Edmonton has food on the table. “
On Twitter, Reynolds also called doctors, nurses, and support staff from Stollery Children’s Hospital.
And kudos to the doctors, nurses, and support staff at Stollery Children’s Hospital. #ConnorMcGrath
