A day after Liberal MPs used their majority clout to nix an opposition-backed proposal to have the House natural resources committee hold emergency hearings on last week’s landmark ruling on the TransMountain pipeline, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is heading to Edmonton, where he’s set to discuss the latest developments during a closed-door meeting with Alberta Prime Minister Rachel Notley this afternoon.

Hours after the Federal Court of Appeal handed down its decision — which effectively overturned the initial approval of the project over concerns that the National Energy Board review process had failed to take into account the potential impact of increased tanker traffic off the coast of British Columbia — Notley announced that her province would be pulling out of Ottawa’s proposed cross-country climate action framework until, as she put it, “the federal government gets its act together.”
