Edmonton’s Oliver Outside Pool is reopened after being closed for three years

EDMONTON – After almost three years of closure for repairs and pandemic restrictions, the popular Oliver Outdoor Pool opened its doors to those hungry for cooling this summer.

On Tuesday, the pool at 10215 welcomed 119 St. Edmontonians with a gentle opening. The official opening took place on Wednesday, where a local resident told CTV Edmonton News the pool was a huge plus for the community.

“There is a lot of family. It’s dense and there are kids everywhere so it’s great to bring the family back together, ”said Jacky Turnbull.

Collin Opper, an employee at Oliver Pool, said the community expected a lot to get the pool working again. The pool is nearly 100 years old and requires a lot of “love and care,” he said.

“You are very excited. I’ve seen a lot of people who haven’t seen water in the pool for three years, ”said Opper.

Alberta entered Phase 2 of its Open for Summer plan on June 10th. Outdoor pools were allowed to open safely with limited capacity.

The following water sports centers are open from this week:

  • Kinsmen Sports Center

  • Queen Elizabeth outdoor pool

  • Fred Broadstock outdoor pool

  • Oliver outdoor pool

Entry is free for children under 12 years of age. Visitors must book a time slot before visiting the pool. Registration can be found online.
